112

How it works?

You can call 112 from landlines and cell phones to contact any emergency service: ambulance, fire brigade or police.
A specially trained operator will answer any 112 calls. The operator will handle the request directly or divert calls to the most appropriate emergency service depending on the national emergency services organization.
Operators in many countries can answer calls not only in their home language but also in English or French. If the caller does not know where he is, the operator will locate the person who made the call and will forward it to the emergency authorities so they can help immediately.
112 is also used in some countries outside the EU - such as Switzerland and South Africa - and is available worldwide on the GSM mobile network.

Do Remember

112 functions along with existing national emergency numbers. Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania and Sweden have selected 112 as their only national emergency number.
112 operator reacts only in real emergency. They do not provide traffic and weather reports, general information or answers to queries.
Hoax calls to 112 waste the emergency operator's time and money and can also be dangerous and a crime in most countries.

112 for children

Every child and young person must know what to do in the event of an accident or fire. If parents and educators teach children what number to call and what to do when something goes wrong, they will know how to act in case an accident actually occurs.
The Kids Corner has a number of kid-friendly materials that will help educate children and teens over 112.
